Keep Busy On Your Road Trip: Top Games For Roadtrippers

You just got your big bonus.  You bought a new shiny Honda, and you and your partner have just planned an epic road trip across the country.  You service the car, pack up, and begin your trip.  An hour into the drive, your excitement about being in the car begins to fade.  If you have kids, you may find this event occurring much faster.  The countless hours spent in the car on your “epic” road trip may be quite taxing on the patience of everyone involved.  Have no fear!  Here is a list of useful games to liven up the sleepiest of roadtrippers.

I Spy

This is quite the classic car game.  Everyone knows I spy.  Someone will look around and find an object.  They will then recite, “I spy something” and fill in the blank.   For example, I spy something yellow.  Your carmates will then go from there asking questions about the object until someone guesses the answer correctly.  Just remember, it’s not really fair to your friends if you try to spy something that is passing by quickly.  Something that isn’t changing every second would be a bit more appropriate.

20 Questions

If you’re traveling with kids, you will most likely suffer through twenty questions anyway.  You might as well actually make a game of it.  It’s pretty easy to play.  Just choose someone to go first.  They will then think of something, and the questioning begins.  Be careful though, you only get twenty chances to guess the object of the player’s thoughts.  The trick is to start out general, and work your way towards being specific once you have acquired some clues.

The Grocery Game

This is a great way to keep the car’s occupants minds stimulated.  The Grocery Game begins with one person saying the name of a specific item you might buy at the grocery store.  The first player starts with the letter A, and then the second player follows by repeating the first player’s selection and adding something that begins with a B.  From there, the game continues down the list of the alphabet until someone forgets an item or lists them incorrectly.  It’s a good brain game.  If you can’t exercise your body in the car, you might as well exercise your mind.

License Plate Game

You’ve probably heard of this game before.  You have probably even played it once or twice.  For this game, everyone in the car keeps a list of all the different license plate origins they see along the way.  The object of the game is to get as close to all fifty states as you possibly can.  Sometimes you may even get lucky and grab some plates from Canada.
